Target gets a Thumbs Up from an Adoptive Mom

I was in Target shopping this morning with my son who is almost 3 years old. We had just dropped my older children off at school. We were shopping down some aisles (we were near the gift wrap section) and I noticed there was a book on adoption. My son wanted to see the book and said “Mommy, I see” so I let him take a look. I thought to myself “how appropriate since he was adopted from Russia last year”. Anyway, I noticed that Target had a whole display of adoption related products. Several adoption books, adoption jewelry and CD’s. One book in particular caught my eye. I think it was called “Why I Chose You”. Even though I am already an adoptive mom, this book almost brought tears to my eyes. There were lots of pictures of adoptive families with little phrases on why the adoptive parent chose to adopt their child.

Prior to adopting my son, I questioned myself a lot about why do I want to adopt? Why do I need another child? Why put my husband and me through all that paperwork, the emotional ups and downs, the expense, and so on. This book explains it very well on why people adopt. If you are considering adoption, you may want to take a look at this book. It explains so wonderfully why people adopt -- because it matters.
