1. What is an “Adoption Telecourse”?
An “Adoption Telecourse” is a “live” course in which you participate by phone from the comfort and privacy of your own home. To join, you simply dial a phone number, enter an access code (both of which are included in your registration confirmation e-mail), and you are connected to the presenter and all the other participants. Using your phone, you can not only listen to but also interact with the presenter by asking questions. top of page

2. What is an “Adoption Webinar”?
An “Adoption Webinar” is a “live” online course in which you participate by both phone & Internet from the comfort and privacy of your home.  You’ll use your phone for the audio portion of the webinar (to listen to the presenter and ask questions), as well as your computer and the Internet to view the slides/photos being shown by the presenter.  The slides are advanced automatically so everyone is always on the same slide.  To join, you dial a phone number and enter an access code (just like an “adoption telecourse”) and enter our “meeting room” by entering a login and password using a computer attached to the Internet.  Webinars also allow you to ask the presenter questions through your computer. top of page

3. What is a “Recorded Adoption Telecourse”?
A “Recorded Adoption Telecourse” is typically a “live” adoption telecourse that has been recorded so that you can listen to it when it is convenient for you over the Internet or using your iPod or MP3 player. A few of our recorded telecourses can also be replayed over the phone.  While you cannot, of course, interact live with the presenter of a “recorded adoption telecourse”, it is a great way to learn! top of page

4. What is a “Recorded Adoption Webinar”
A “recorded adoption webinar” is a special presentation where you both listen to the presenter and view his/her slides using your computer over the Internet when it is convenient for you.  The slides automatically advance as the presenter speaks, so you can sit back, listen & learn - once again, all from the comfort and privacy of your own home.  You can start and stop the presentation whenever you wish as well as skip or review slides. If you haven’t taken one of our recorded adoption webinars, you really should try one!  top of page

5. Do I have to pay for a telephone call?
If you’re joining a live telecourse or webinar, yes. The cost of the call is whatever your phone company normally charges you. We do not receive any proceeds from the calls and, in fact, we pay too!  Robin personally uses a calling card that she purchased at Sam’s Club, but many who join have phone plans with included minutes or long distance. We don’t use a toll-free number so that we can keep the cost as low as possible. top of page

6. Can I participate in a live webinar if I have a dial-up connection to the Internet?
Yes! However, if you're using a dial-up modem you'll probably need to use a cell phone for the audio portion of the webinar so that you can use still access the Internet using your phone line. If that’s not possible, you can print the slides ahead of time and view them during the webinar. If you have any questions, please send us an e-mailtop of page

7. What if I registered but now I can’t attend the session?
We know that this can happen!  Most telecourses and webinars are available on replay over the Internet for those who miss it or just want to hear it again. Replays are typically available within 48 hours of the end of telecourse or webinar. top of page

8. What if I want to pay by check instead of using Paypal?
No problem!  Let us know via e-mail, make out the check to “ThinkingOfAdopting.com”, and mail it to ThinkingOfAdopting.com, 6030 Marshalee Drive, #177, Elkridge, MD 21075. We’ll send you your registration confirmation via e-mail. top of page

9. Can I participate in a telecourse/webinar if I live outside of the United States?
Of course! And we’ve had adoption friends join us from as far away as Australia.  We know that the cost of the phone call and the times can make it impractical to join our telecourses and webinars live, and if so, we encourage you to take advantage of our replay feature so you can listen through the Internet when it’s convenient for you. top of page

10. What do I do if I registered but I never received any information?
If you register for an adoption telecourse or webinar you should receive a registration confirmation e-mail within a few minutes.  If you don’t, first check in your “junk” or “spam” mail folder (if you have one) for a message from “Robin @ ThinkingOfAdopting.com” - just in case it may have been inadvertently ended up there. If you still cannot find it, please send us an e-mail and we will resend it to you.

11. I’m having trouble joining a live session. What should I do?
Please give us a call at 410-916-1542 or send an e-mail.  We’ll do our best to help you through any problems you are experiencing as quickly as possible. If at all possible, we recommend that you test your ability to join the Internet portion of your webinar on the day of the webinar before the webinar begins.  If you have any problems, we’ll be able to help resolve them before the session begins.  top of page

12.  I’ve followed the instructions in my registration e-mail but no one else appears to be there!
Unless we’ve experienced some catastrophic technical problem (and we pray it never happens!), if you’ve been on the phone for a live telecourse or webinar more than five minutes past what you believe is the scheduled start time, please hang up (so you don’t incur any additonal phone charges) and double check the start time. The times for all ThinkingOfAdopting.com telecourses and webinars are shown as United States Eastern Time (the time it is in Washington, D.C.). Still no luck? Please e-mail us or call us at 410-916-1542.  top of page

13.  Can I receive a certificate of completion for my telecourse or webinar?
Yes! We would be happy to provide you with a certificate of completion for any ThinkingOfAdopting.com telecourse or webinar upon your request. You will receive a personalized certificate of completion in Adobe PDF format via email that you can print our or forward to your adoption agency if you wish.  top of page

14.  Do your telecourses and webinars count towards my 10 hours of required Hague training for prospective adoptive parents?
ThinkingOfAdopting.com is committed to providing the highest quality, independent adoption education for prospective adoptive parents to meet the required Hague training requirement.  According to the US Department of State, your adoption agency has the final say in what training counts towards the 10 hours of required Hague training for prospective adoptive parents, so always check first.  If your agency has any questions we would be more than happy to speak with the - just let us know.  And, don’t forget, we’ll be there for you after your adoption as well, with telecourses and webinars to help you once you return home.  top of page
